Who we are?
SDSU Salsa was established three years ago. The club is determined to continue expanding and engaging in our community to nurture the name of SDSU within the Salsa community. Our purpose is to encourage diversity and cultural awareness within and outside of our campus. It is a great opportunity to unite students and faculty with the objective of making our community much smaller and friendlier. Apart from building long lasting friendships, SDSU Salsa provides a safe interactive environment to express individuality through movement.
We welcome dancers of all levels and our classes offer a fun and social environment in which to learn. No partner or experience required! You will learn to be a confident lead or a strong follow.
Your first lesson with us is free. After that, membership is only $15 per semester. We meet once a week at the ENS Field (soccer field across Adams and Humanity at SDSU). Classes begin again on Wednesday, September 14th from 7-9pm.

Hey! My name is Brianna Zantman but feel free to call me Bri! I am a 4th year transfer student from the Bay Area and this is my second year at SDSU. I am majoring in Media Journalism with an emphasis in Advertising and minoring in Art. I’ve always loved dance but my first dance classes I took were in hip-hop. In High School and community college I did Ballroom and a little bit of Latin dance for about 5 years. Salsa quickly became my favorite. When I came to SDSU last year, I immediately joined the Salsa club and absolutely loved it. Joining the team also really refined my skills. I love the pure joy that I get from dancing. You can find me dancing at Queen Bee’s, Tango Del Rey, Fuse, and Crazy Goose. I can’t wait to serve SDSU Salsa and Pa’Xango this year. You can reach me at [email protected] |
Vice President
Hello my fellow Aztecs, my name is Melissa Ayala. I am a current senior majoring in Anthropology and minor in Biology. I have 18 years of dance experience but this is the first time I have come out of my comfort zone (want to thank Jordan Moore for encouraging me) to dance with such amazing people—it’s not just dancing, it’s a bond with another being. I have been dancing salsa for about 5 months and it’s the best life changing decision I have made. Latin dance roots have a high dose of confidence and personality. I can confidently guarantee anyone to have a memorable night of laughs and lots of fun. As a beginner myself I would recommend Queen Bees Sunday nights. You can reach me at [email protected].

My name is Armildre Baez, but you can call me Armi. I am a graduating senior majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies and I am SDSU’s Salsa Club Treasurer. I started salsa dancing about two
years ago. I decided to step out of my comfort zone my sophomore year of college and join a new club. I recall my first night out social dancing at an event called Salsa Under the Stars in Seaport Village. I had so much fun and discovered a new found love for salsa and bachata. Since then, I make it a habit to go out to different night clubs around San Diego. My favorite place to social dance is Tango Del Rey.. You can reach me at [email protected]. |
Director of External Affairs
Hey, I’m Jeffrey! I’m a Senior currently studying Biology. Dance is actually quite foreign to me. I’ve done years of martial arts training so I only knew how to move my body in a certain way. Then I came across Salsa Club at SDSU in Spring 2014 and it’s been one big journey since then. I’ve met amazing people in this club who have both challenged me and patiently nurtured my growth as a Salsero. I used to think that I’d never be able to dance anything, but after being with the club, I feel this new sense of confidence that eagerly tells me, “I can try this and I can do this.” For anything, don’t hesitate to shoot me an email at [email protected].

Hello my name is Erika Peralta. I am a third year student pursing a degree in Public Health with an honors Interdisciplinary Minor. I joined the Salsa Club last year because I really missed dancing and I wanted to find a club where I could meet new people and just have some fun. I grew up dancing at family parties, but I had never taken a formal lesson before last year. I am generally a shy person, but dancing always makes me break out of my shell and be more confident, that's why I love it. The people I've met in salsa club have all become like family and I really enjoy going social dancing. My favorite places to social dance are Tango Del Rey and Queen Bee's. If you have any questions or concerns you can contact me at [email protected].

Social Chair
Hello my name is Andrea Covarrubias and I am a Senior at SDSU studying Child and Family Development. I started taking ballet and jazz lessons as a young child and here is when I discovered my passion for dancing. Coming from a Hispanic background I grew up listening to a variety of Latin rhythms like banda, bachata, kumbia, merengue, etc. However, I never took a professional salsa and bachata class until I transferred to San Diego State University. Now I have been dancing salsa and bachata for a year and this experience has changed my life in unimaginable ways. Being part of a dance team and having excellent dance instructors allowed me to become more confident, to improve my dance skills and to meet amazing friends. I am part of the Majesty in Motion bachata team and my favorite places to go social dancing are Sevilla Nightclub, Queen Bees and Tango Del Rey. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate in contacting me at [email protected]
